The Challenge
Preserving the confidentiality of sensitive data shared with external parties
Maruti Suzuki has been delivering high-quality passenger vehicles since 1983, ushering in India’s automobile revolution and growing to become the country’s largest passenger car manufacturer.
As part of its routine operations, the company shares large amounts of marketing materials and pricing lists — in a variety of formats — with external vendors. In addition, the Maruti Suzuki R&D department frequently exchanges sensitive information with partners, consultants, and industry experts outside the organization.
To maintain its competitive advantage and preserve brand integrity, Maruti Suzuki needed to prevent leaks and preserve the confidentiality of its proprietary information. To achieve these goals, the company began looking for a solution that would protect sensitive data at its source (the file), and give them the ability to monitor that data wherever it travels. Maruti Suzuki also wanted to protect its internal records from exposure and misuse by malicious or negligent parties. In addition, the organization wanted to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), without compromising its data security goals.
The Solution
Implementing enhanced security with Seclore
To achieve these goals, Maruti Suzuki looked into Seclore’s Digital Rights Management capabilities, which offer the only browser-based security solution that protects sensitive information, digital assets, and documents, and that tracks that information wherever it travels using granular, persistent usage and data security controls.
The company was especially interested in the granular usage controls that Seclore offers. Usage controls prevent unauthorized users from printing protected materials or taking screenshots, for example, while ensuring that data remains accessible to authorized users. Seclore also integrated seamlessly with Maruti Suzuki’s other enterprise solutions such as their DLP and CASB, which made implementation a lot easier.
The company decided to adopt Seclore’s data-centric security platform, and it implemented the solution with a smooth onboarding and training experience.
The Results
Protecting sensitive information with granular controls
Using Seclore, Maruti Suzuki has significantly enhanced its data security landscape. It now has the ability to protect sensitive data regardless of format, including Microsoft Word and Excel, PDF, MP4, AutoCAD and more. Plus, protection remains in effect no matter where the data travels, by restricting access to only those who need it.
Seclore’s data-centric security solution also provides time-sensitive data protection, empowering Maruti Suzuki to set expiration dates before sharing sensitive data with third parties, after which all access to that data expires. Granular usage controls can also prevent unauthorized users from taking specific actions like screenshotting or printing the data. And Seclore’s seamless integration with other enterprise solutions means that Maruti Suzuki has a reliable security solution that better prepares it for a cybersecurity future where threats become increasingly more frequent and sophisticated every year.
